Meet Charlie - Ready for Adoption
Charlie is a loyal, affectionate dog who's been through a lot and is finally ready to find his person. After being abandoned and later placed on a euthanasia list, he was rescued by Sullivan Sanctuary and has spent the last year rebuilding trust, confidence, and joy.
Charlie bonds deeply with his chosen human. He's a blanket‑burrower, a quiet cuddler, a slow walker, and a devoted shadow who loves calm days, car rides, and predictable routines.
Because of his fear‑based bite history, Charlie needs a quiet, adult‑only home with no other pets. He does best with a small circle of trusted people, careful guest management, and continued muzzle training for new introductions. In the right environment, he is gentle, goofy, and incredibly loving.

But today, I want to tell you my whole story — the way I lived it.
When I was a tiny kitten, a little girl named Abby picked me up and held me close. She was seven, and she smelled like crayons and summertime. She named me Pie, and I loved the way she said it — soft and warm, like a hug. I grew up with her. I slept on her pillow every night. I followed her everywhere. I was her best friend, and she was mine.
One day, when Abby was eighteen, she took me to Petco in Topsham to be groomed. We lived in Richmond, so the drive felt familiar. But when we got there… something scared me. A noise, a smell, a moment too big. I panicked. I ran. I didn’t mean to. I didn’t want to leave her. But my paws carried me into the woods behind the parking lot, and suddenly I couldn’t find her anymore.

About Us
Sullivan Sanctuary of Maine and GOBIES Legacy Rescue began as two separate missions with the same heartbeat: saving the overlooked, the forgotten, and the animals who had nowhere else to go. For years, Casey and Lindsay worked in their own towns, each rescuing dogs, cats, bunnies, and any soul who needed a safe place to land.
Over time, it became clear that our missions were stronger together. We officially joined forces, combining our compassion, our experience, and our determination to give every animal — no matter their background — a real chance at safety and love.
Right now, we’re still operating from two different locations, but our shared goal is to expand and come together on one property. Being at the same sanctuary space will allow us to rescue more animals, provide better medical and behavioral support, and eventually open our doors to farm animals who need sanctuary too.
Until then, we continue working side by side, saving lives every day, and building the future we know is possible.

Can I Adopt an Animal from Sullivan Sanctuary of Maine?
Yes, some of our rescued animals are adoptable once they are healthy and ready for a new home. However, many with lifelong special needs remain with us as permanent residents, receiving ongoing care and love in our sanctuary.
